The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, abbreviately known as the ZAC Stadium is located in Chittagong, is a sports ground in Bangladesh that has hosted international cricket matches along with provincial games. The venue is the home of both the men’s and women’s national teams and domestically Chittagong Vikings. It has a capacity of 22,000 spectators for international matches.
The first One Day International (ODI) at the ground was played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in 2006, and the first Test was held between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the same tour. As of October 2016, it has hosted a further 15 Test matches, 17 ODI matches and 17 T20I matches.
In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a “five-for” or “fifer”) refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement.
The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at ZAC Stadium was Muttiah Muralitharan for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh in 2006; he finished the innings with bowling figures of six wickets for 54 runs. The best figures in Test cricket at this venue are 7 wickets for 36 runs, taken by Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan against New Zealand in 2008. He is also the best Test bowler to take four fifers at ZAC Stadium. As of October 2016, there have been 16 Test match five-wicket hauls at this ground.
As of October 2016, a bowler is yet to take a five-wicket haul in ODIs at ZAC Stadium.
In T20Is, 2 fifers has been taken up to October 2016. The first fifer in T20I at the venue was taken by Dutch medium pacer Ahsan Malik against South Africa in 2014. The best bowling figures in a T20I at the venue was recorded by Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath against New Zealand in 2014, when he took 5 wickets for just 3 runs.
